Underwater works - Venice
Overview
Restoration of the historic center of Venice
A Bit of History
Venice is a coastal city located in northeastern Italy, along Adriatic river. Venice is renowned for its architecture and cultural heritage, leading to its inscription as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is built across 119 islands connected by bridges and crisscrossed by 177 canals, with the Grand Canal being the most significant. With a historic center accessible only by foot, the canals serve as roadways, and boats function as public transportation.
PROJECT
On November 12, 2019, Venice experienced the worst "acqua alta" (high tide) since the event of November 4, 1996. The water level reached an estimated height of 187 cm. Due to this exceptional weather event, it became crucial to urgently restore the roads, sewers, and canal banks in the historic center.

Application
PROMPT natural cement was used to reinforce the foundation walls of several canals, which are constructed from stones and bricks. PROMPT natural cement was applied to both above-water and submerged sections. Underwater applications were accomplished using pure paste.
Sustainable Solution
The rapid setting and quick hardening of PROMPT natural cement facilitated a complete restoration of the canal banks.
